Blog stats that make you go hmm...

My visitors by country, as tracked by blogger:

United States
16,965
Canada
5,798
United Kingdom
1,708
Australia
891
Hong Kong
693
Ukraine
519
China
492
Germany
472
Netherlands
387
France
262

No surprises in 1 through 5. Two of the countries are the top two in native English-speaking population and the other three are English-speaking countries to which I have ties. But then Ukraine at #6? What explains this? And China at #7 seems weird too, since I would have guess China would be much lower since the Great Firewall would filter out Blogger pages. I suppose those are all proxy visitors?

Ukrainian and Chinese visitors, speak up!

  1. What I find weird is your Alexa Rank of 2,339,277. I have an embarrassingly small blog/readership and mine is 651,486.

Until recently, I always had a 2/10. Slipped to 1/10 -- probably UIGEA lowering now inactive links.

Your readership runs exponentially greater. Welcome to the weird/unnatural world of SEO.

  2. I'd like to find out too. Ukraine has been #1 for several months running now on the wine blog I haven't posted on in a year

    1. That makes me think it's spambots who don't make it past the captcha

  3. Believe it or not, there are a ton of poker players from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia (Commonwealth of Independent States; CIS). I imagine someone probably posted your blog on one of the forums...that's about all it takes.

    1. Could be. But doesn't explain why I'm more popular in Ukraine (pop 43M) than Russia (pop 141m). Maybe my ex-girlfriend who lives in Ukraine now posted about me, heh.
